Excerpt from, "Surprised By Hope," by N.T. Wright

"When human beings give their heartfelt allegiance to and worship that which is not God, they progressively cease to reflect the image of God.  One of the primary laws of human life is that you become like what you worship; what's more, you reflect what you worship not only back to the object itself but also outward to the world around.  Those who worship money increasingly define themselves in terms of it and increasingly treat other people as creditors, debtors, partners, or customers rather than as human beings.  Those who worship sex define themselves in terms of it (their preferences, their practices, their past histories) and increasingly treat other people as actual or potential sexual ojects.  Those who worshp power define themselves in terms of it and treat other people as either collaborators, competitors, or pawns.  These and many other forms of idolatry combine in a thousand ways, all of them damaging to the image-bearing quality of the people concerned and of those whose lives they touch."

    Just No Comparison

I know there will be very strong feelings on this.  So much so, I hesitated to even make this post.  However, in the end, for the sake of everyone, I decided that I must.  I realize this is dangerous, in this politically and economically charged time, but I must make this point; this stand.  No matter the pain, the ridicule, the slanderous accusations that will be made against me for this staunch and final stand on a topic as explosive as this, truth must be proclaimed.  Older generations must be reminded, and youth must be made aware.  It must be proclaimed.

There is just no greater lyricist in Christian music than Rich Mullins.

Yes, the old hymns speak to the soul, and some artists such as Chris Rice and Andrew Peterson are good, and even many new artists are great, but ultimately, they all fall short to the glorious words that reach into the depths of your heart and leave you standing (or kneeling) in the presence of a great and glorious God who knows you and loves you, throughout your experience in this life, and the next.  It's as if Rich looked into your soul, and pulled out the most intimate thoughts, attitudes, experiences, worries, and triumphs, and laid them open for the world to see; as if that song was written just for you.

Let those who will rebuff me, but here I will take my stand.

  • An Absolutely Perfect Idea!

I'm not sure who in Washington to send this idea to, but it's sure genius, I tell you....GENIUS!

Rather than give the auto industry $25 billion to retool their operation, I think the federal government should use the money to purchase the back log of cars we keep hearing about.  Purchase as many as possible.  I'm sure with that big of a purchase they could get a huge discount.  So let's say they can purchase as many cars as possible at $15K per car.  That would purchase about 1,666, 667 vehicles.  If they could negotiate the price down to $12K per car, they could purchase about 2,083,334 vehicles.  Shoot, the auto industry may even have to make additional cars to meet the order (I'm not sure how big the backlog is).  Surely that would keep things flowing in Detroit and keep everyone working for at least awhile longer.

I know, I know, your thinking, "What in the world is the U.S. Government going to do with that many cars?"  Well, don't worry my friends, I have a solution for that problem too.  I say, give those cars to federal employees!  I don't mean those higher up, muckity mucks in Washington.  I mean the front-line, "out there working to keep everyone safe and keep the country running," folks.  You know, people like, like, Air Traffic Controllers for instance!

    What a great plan.

    Respectfully submitted,

    F2S
